PDPM live case-mix HRD predictions now available from Simple
Regulations constantly evolve in our industry, and Simple is committed to developing new tools across our solutions to offer innovative value for our clients. Case-Mix calculations may be changing, but you won’t be left in the dark.
With the transition from a RUG-based Case-Mix calculation to a new methodology utilizing PDPM data coming in July, Simple users can now predict their HRD measures using the new model.
Clients who use SimplePBJ and SimpleAnalyzer now have access to HRD predictions of the upcoming July Five-Star Reports. You can read more about the latest update in SimplePBJ here.
April Five-Star reports: Frozen HRD measures
While CMS rebuilds their HRD calculation methodology to utilize PDPM Case-Mix data, HRD measures will be frozen from the January 2024 Five-Star refresh.
The new HRD calculation model will be reflected in the July 2024 Five-Star Refresh.
The three HRD staffing measures are:
- Total Nurse HRD
- RN HRD
- Weekend Nurse HRD

Simple has launched a new, HIPAA-compliant user portal for submitting support requests called NetsmartCONNECT. Please note: Simple’s PBJ support team can only be contacted through NetsmartCONNECT or via phone.
Important! If you have not created a NetsmartCONNECT account yet, check out the training video and other resources here: NetsmartCONNECT for Simple clients. This user portal is the only way to see support case updates, so creating an account ahead of the PBJ deadline can help you save time. We will also review this new process in our quarterly PBJ webinar (register below).
Time marches on: Updated look-back period
Five-Star Reports for January, February, and March 2024 will use the look-back period of October 2022 – September 2023 for PBJ turnover calculations.
PBJ deadline reminder: Wednesday, May 15
Your Q2 2024 (Jan 1, 2024 – Mar 31, 2024) PBJ staffing data is due by Wednesday, May 15 and should post to Five-Star Reports and Care Compare by the end of July 2024 (with the new HRD calculation model).
