On Dec. 4, CMS issued a memo outlining changes to unfreeze the Five-Star ratings effective on Jan. 27, 2021. CMS plans to update the quality measures using data based on the following data collection periods:
- Assessment-based QMs through Jun. 30, 2020
- Claims-based QMs through Jun. 30, 2020
- QRP QMs through Dec. 31, 2019 (Skin Integrity and Rate of Successful Return)
Be sure to review your 2020-Q2 predicted Five-Star Score in SimpleAnalyzer™ as soon as possible. Modifications made after Jan. 1 may not impact your published score due to CMS data collection schedules.

2020-Q2 Predicted Five-Star score
This is a prediction of your Five-Star score based on the data that CMS will be using for the upcoming Nursing Home Compare refresh in January.
Pay close attention to messages indicating you are close to a cut point. Red arrows indicate you are close to decreasing a star rating. Green arrows indicate you're close to increasing a star rating.
2020-Q2 Predicted rates on QM cards
Filter your QM cards using the 5-Star filter and look for QMs with red or green highlights in 2020-Q2. Red indicates you are one resident away from losing points for this QM. Green indicates you are one resident away from gaining points.
For these high-impact QMs, a single resident can make a big difference in your overall Five-Star score. Review these measures in-depth to make sure there are no mistakes in coding that should be addressed.
